"If there's a bustle in your hedgerow
  Don't be alarmed now
It's just a spring clean for the May Queen"  - Stairway to Heaven

Note:  This is a pretty old rant, hence the mention of Garbage being an obscure band.  Anyhow WFOSL is now an all 80's pop station, in case you were wondering who won, the answer of course is no one.

I find myself, a radio listener, caught in the crossfire of two dueling classic rock radio stations. The radio stations in question: WFOSL & WGEZR* are battling to determine who is the TRUE classic rock purveyor & ultimately who has the right to play their endless classic rock line up. Really doesn't mean anything, I know. Who gives a damn, right? At first I felt the same way. The only problem is that I listen to WFOSL. They used to be a classic rock only station, but a few years ago they changed the format & started playing good music. Sure they played the Dave Matthews Band incessantly, but I can forgive them for that cause they played Tori Amos, and they didn't just play "Silent All These Years". They played Ashley MacIsaac & Garbage & old U2. Really rare commodities in this town...
Then one day, for no apparent reason they started playing nothing but classic rock. Jarring to my delicate musical ear, yes. But you know I like classic rock too. It would be dandy & all but... there are already two classic rock stations in my area. One of them, WGEZR, is less than a millimeter away from WFOSL on my radio dial. Which basically means I can't tell them apart! The only way I know which station I am listening to is when I hear a station id for WFOSL about how much WGEZR sucks & how we should all hate them for already having a classic rock station. It's mean & wrong & I hate that WFOSL feels the need to sling mud over who plays the most Led Zeppelin. Because frankly "Stairway to Heaven" is just as damn long & stupid no matter where it's played on the radio dial. Now I run the risk of turning on the radio only to find that both stations are simultaneously playing "Black Magic Woman" seconds apart. It's surreal & it pisses me off. I miss my damn music variety! I don't have some sort Steely Dan quota to make today so I don't see the necessity of having so much of it!
